Candle Light Ski at Moose Mountain Provincial Park

If you've followed any of our adventures over the last couple of years you know that we love any excuse to glow. Glow paddle, glow hike, glow ski, glow park hop, etc. Why should the outdoor fun end when the sun sets? Nature is so exhilarating to explore in the dark and so we were so excited to see not one but THREE Candle Light Skis show up on the Sask Parks calendar for Moose Mountain Provincial Park.

When we decided to trek to Kenosee for the event we knew we had to outfit ourselves in mini lights. We're getting quite fast at attaching lights and at the beginning of the ski I made the comment "I think it's a sign of having a good life if you have a "glow kit" always ready to go." We were greatly encouraged by everyone we passed who exclaimed how much they enjoyed our lights and even cheered for us lol.

Once we were all "glowed up" we hit the trail. Gah - a ski trail lit up with simple luminaries (white paper bags with tea light candles) is MAGICAL. I don't think it gets more hygge or friluftsliv than that. Plus, as someone who has only ever skied non-groomed areas the groomed trails were such a treat.

We were also so fortunate to have fantastic weather, mild temperatures and an incredibly clear sky. Given that we were in the park there was very little light pollution which made for excellent start gazing. It was breathtaking. We pointed out constellations, pulled out our star gazing app at one point and also had a great discussion on stars being different colours based on their temperature and composition. (Adventure Club always ends up discussing science and nature at some point ;) ).

The ski took place on Academy Trail with a start point at the riding stables. The trail was a lot of fun as there are some gentle curves which were so pretty lined with light and a few up and down sections. They weren't too cumbersome to get up and they were really fun to go down. Though I didn't bring my own kids this time we saw lots of kids on the trail and I would definitely bring my kids next time.

Thankfully there are two more Candle Light Ski dates on the calendar. February 12 and March 5. I definitely hope to make it to both and I'll definitely be going up in the morning and planning to spend the day. This time I made it up early enough to have a guided ski with my cabin owner friend who knows all the best places and that was a blast as well. With the kids I'd love to do a skate, hit up the toboggan hill and play a little crokicurl. It's looking like we may need to rent a cabin and stay overnight ;)
