One of the most fascinating things about histories are the stories of the every day, regular people who stepped up, used what they had and made a profound difference in the lives of others.
In this project, 13 such individuals and their stories are highlighted. These people (and even 2 animals) have diverse backgrounds and remarkable stories.
The card fan is a way for students to summarize their learning about these people. It’s recommended to first try and research them on the internet to build research skills and prompt rabbit trail learning.
Afterward the research the included reading page can be given so that they can read a succinct summary and fill in any gaps.
Once completed, attach all the cards together with a brass fastener to create a fan.
Additionally, included in the project are 4 extra activities:
- Segregation in the US Navy reading + response
- Memory Matching game to put the faces to the names
- Cast the Movie activity where students create a cast for who would play these people in a movie
- Send a Letter through Time (students write a letter to one of the individuals)
These stories are sure to inspire and will also provide context for human experience during WWII.
